Welcome to my apartment in Buenos Aires!

Mi Buenos Aires Querido!

¡Hola!  My name is Martha Fernandez Avello.  I am a Porteña living and working in Toronto, Canada.

A Porteño or Porteña is the name given to someone who was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Buenos Aires is the world's capital for Argentine Tango.  All Porteños have the Tango's beautiful, lyrical music and warm, seductive rhythms in their hearts.  We can't help it, we have heard the music everywhere in Buenos Aires since birth. It is a huge part of the culture of my city.  You can see and feel the Tango in the way we walk, in the way we talk, in the way we embrace our loved ones, in the way we live life...

I love the Tango and I dance it all the time whether I am in Buenos Aires or Toronto, or travelling to other places around the world.  Tango had humble beginnings in the working class and in the immigrant populations of Buenos Aires, over a hundred years ago.  The Porteños poured their passion into the dance, and it became the dance of the city.  It is wonderful for me to see in Toronto and in other places I have traveled how my culture - through the captivating and irresistible Tango - have touched so many people of different backgrounds and nationalities all over the world. Now, there are amazing Tango dancers everywhere around the globe.

However, there is one place that every Tango dancer must visit at least once in their lifetime - Buenos Aires!  I hope that all of you lovers of Tango can make the pilgrimage some day to experience for yourself the birthplace of the Tango.  Buenos Aires is truly a Tango heaven - breathtaking Tango performances on the grandest stages in the city, expert Tango instruction in classes and workshops from the best teachers in the world, and lively milongas every night for your dancing pleasure.

I have a little Tango apartment for rent right in the heart of Buenos Aire's downtown - in the ancient barrio of San Cristobal.  It's a quaint little part of the city, where the hustle and bustle of modern life meets history at the intersection of Independencia and Entre Rios - only 800 meters from the famous legislative buildings of "El Congreso", and 3.2 kilometers from magnificent "El Obelisco".  But most importantly, it is within short walking distance of many of the best known milongas in the south of the city - the famed Centro Region Leonesa, where Nino Bien and Los Consagrados are held, Lo de Celia, Porteño y Bailarin, El Beso...the list goes on.
It's the perfect location for Tango dancers and for any guest who wants to explore the city.  My one bedroom apartment is newly renovated, spacious and completely furnished with a pretty patio. In the large bedroom the bed can be adapted to suit the guests' requirements - either twin beds or one luxurious king size bed. There is also a pull out single chair, and the sofa in the living room (this is not a sofa bed) we also have and inflatable mattress.  Let me take you on a tour!

My apartment is completely renovated and furnished - a safe, economical and comfortable choice for short term or long term travelers who want to stay in downtown Buenos Aires close to all the action.  The location is close to the milongas, and also to public transportation (buses and subway).  For food, there are take-out places, bakeries, ice cream parlours, cafés, pizzerias, and restaurants with delicious Argentinian asado just steps away - or you can shop at the local fresh food market or at the many supermarkets nearby for ingredients to cook your own nutritious meals.

My sister lives in an apartment on the same floor, and I am always available by email or by telephone in case you need anything - even advice on which milongas to go to!

I hope you enjoyed this tour of my apartment in Buenos Aires.  For more information on rental rates, availability, or if you have any other questions about my apartment, please feel free to contact me at marthaspartment(at)gmail.com.
